Course Description

We live in an era of international migration and mobility. Capstone: Migration Studies is a practice-oriented course designed to explore critical issues surrounding migrant labor and migration in Taiwan, particularly involving Southeast Asian migrant workers. Through dialogues, field visits, interviews, and writing exercises, students will engage firsthand with the challenges and contributions of migrant workers and new immigrants. Key questions include: What challenges do Southeast Asian migrant workers face in Taiwan? What roles do migrant workers and new immigrants play in reshaping Taiwanese society?

In this course, students will reflect on the migration society we inhabit and collaboratively develop a practical project. The main project will be to design and implement a two-day thematic workshop or “camp” for high school students in December, focused on migrant worker issues. Students will take the lead in shaping the camp's content and format, working with high school participants to promote understanding, engagement, and dialogue.

This course is part of the USR Hub Project “Inclusive Innovation”, which emphasizes social responsibility through community-engaged learning. Students will have the opportunity to apply research and communication skills in meaningful, real-world contexts.
