課程簡介Course Description

This course is intended for freshman students majoring in Arabic and designed to accompany the Arabic (I) course and uses the same textbook (al-‘arabiyya baina yadaik: kitāb al-ṭālib al-‘awwal). During the first two weeks, it introduces the pronunciation and writing system of Arabic letters as well as basic grammatical structures. For the remainder of the course, the class follows the progress of Arabic (I), covering Lessons 1 to 6 of the textbook, supplemented by additional instructional materials to achieve the shared objectives of both courses. This course focuses on strengthening students’ listening and speaking skills. They are expected to actively participate in oral practice, apply what they have learned in curriculum activities, take on various roles in dialogues during class, and complete writing and recording assignments after class.

    1. Students are expected to be proficient in using subject, object, and possessive pronouns, as well as in understanding noun gender, number, case, and the basic person conjugations of verbs.
    2. Apply affirmative, negative, and interrogative sentence structures in Arabic.
    3. Be able to express topics fluently, such as greetings, food and drinks, locations, and cultural activities, and interact with the instructor and classmates using elementary-level colloquial proficiency.

    1. Students accumulating three absences will not pass the course and will be ineligible to take the midterm and final examinations.
    2. Assignments must be submitted on time. Students caught utilizing electrical devices during quizzes or exams, plagiarizing in assignments or cheating in examinations will receive a failing grade.
    3. Students failing to complete the worksheets provided by the instructor will not receive a grade.
    4. Students requesting leave and applying for a make-up quiz will have their grade multiplied by eighty percent (80%). The make-up quiz must be completed within two weeks.
