本課程將系統性地說明西方哲學傳統中之形上學思想與理論，授課重點涉及以下議題： 1. 形上學和存有學的定義與思想發展；2. 宇宙的存在本源和結構；3. 人之存在的本質、構造和意義；4. 永恆與生成變化的爭論；5. 空間與時間的構造；5. 存有法則和因果問題；7. 上帝觀念。

本課程嘗試引導學生針對西方哲學中有關人與宇宙存有之各種議題進行理解和反省。
