Course Objectives:
(1) To introduce students to the basic theoretical assumptions and tools in Generative Syntax and Usage-based Construction Grammar;
(2) To develop analytical skills necessary for linguistic research, e.g. introspection-based grammaticality judgement and corpus-based approaches;
(3) To broaden students’ knowledge of a variety of theoretical frameworks and enhance their ability to evaluate them critically.
Learning Outcomes:

(b) Ability to design own research projects;
(c) Ability to collect and analyse data.
(2) Transferable skills:

A list of essay topics will be provided for the final essay. Alternatively, the final essay may deal with any topic on syntax as long as it is approved by the course organiser.
