The course aims to examine the formation process of artistic expression and creativity as social and cultural products through an in-depth exploration of the crafts and performing arts in Southeast Asia. The course team will lead students to understand and focus on the mainstream cultural regions such as Thailand, Myanmar, and Indonesia and their ethnic minority communities, and explore how the art in these regions exists as a socio-economic entity. Course content covers historical and contemporary practices in the craft and performing arts, emphasizing the importance of these art forms in local culture and economies. Through a combination of theoretical explanations and practical observations, students will master the methods of artistic analysis and understand the deep-seated significance of artistic creation in a specific social and cultural context. We hope that students can discover the complex relationship between artistic creation and social and cultural interaction from multi-angle and multi-level art analysis, and be able to apply these understandings to their own creations.
能力項目說明
In response to the New Southbound Policy, this course has set a series of goals to deepen cultural exchanges and interactions between Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries, and hopes to promote the development of arts and literature learning and creativity among NCCU students through studying southward.
1. Committed to enhancing students’ in-depth understanding of Southeast Asian art and cultivating students’ cross-cultural literacy through the study of its history, cultural background and contemporary practices.
2. Encourage students to develop their critical thinking and creative abilities through lectures, workshops and field observations.
3. Emphasize the importance of developing international understanding and interpersonal interaction, and enhance students’ global perspective through exchanges with artists and scholars in Southeast Asia.
4. It is hoped that through diversified teaching methods, students' creative potential will be stimulated so that they can carry out effective artistic creation and cooperation in different cultural backgrounds.
The curriculum team believes that the achievement of these goals will help cultivate academic/artistic talents with international competitiveness and cultural soft power for NCCU and Taiwan.
