In this language course students will learn the four basic skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing) in the context of major themes in Polish culture. The course consists of 24 units, including two special units about Christmas Easter. The introductory lessons consists of the phonics workshop. Each unit of the course includes various exercises developing basic listening comprehension, reading, speaking and writing skills. The course employs authentic materials, such as diagrams, leaflets, restaurant menus, cinema schedules, train or bus timetables, a departures and arrivals board, exchange rates etc. Students will work with authentic texts and dialogues in the context of everyday Polish life.

By the end of the course students will be able to describe people, events and situations, both in the present, the future and the past, and will have acquired the necessary vocabulary to communicate about everyday situations.

Fluency:
20 points: Speech natural and continuous; no unnatural pauses
18 points: Speech generally natural and continuous; only slight stumbling or unnatural pauses
16 points: Definite stumbling, but a student manages to rephrase or continue
12 points: Speech frequently hesitant and jerky; sentences may be left uncompleted
Vocabularies:
20 points: Uses vocabulary very accurately and extensively (for given levels)
18 points: Uses range of vocabulary accurately
16 points: Occasionally lacks needed words; predominantly accurate usage
12 points: Frequently lacks needed words; frequent inaccurate usage
Structure:
20 points: Vocal expression and grammar almost always correct
18 points: Most expressions correct; some minor structural errors
16 points : Many expressions correct; some significant structural errors
12 points: Some expressions correct; definite structural problems
Comprehensibility:
20 points: Entirely comprehensible
18 points: Almost entirely comprehensible; no misunderstandings
16 points: Some errors, but mostly comprehensible; occasionally misunderstands tester's questions
12 points: Many errors, about half incomprehensible
Class attendance is mandatory. It will be added as 20 points to the final grade.
Each absence from class will receive a one-point deduction from the final grade.
