In academia, strategy is the study of achieving superior performance under competition. In practice, strategy consists of a set of decisions and activities that guide an organization’s long-term development. The main purpose of this seminar is to introduce doctoral students to the fundamental theories and issues in strategic management research. After completing the course, students will acquire a basic understanding of the major subject areas in the field of strategic management and be able to apply them in their research endeavors.

Class participation
The course is set up as a three-hour section every week. Students are required to prepare and present a referee report, in PowerPoint format, on their assigned papers.
Referee Reports
When reading papers and preparing for referee reports, students are advised to address the following questions:
Term Paper
For the term paper, students must define the research question, review the relevant literature, develop testable hypotheses, and explain the methods and data/ empirical context that may be used to test the hypotheses.
Absenteeism for more than three times will result in a failing grade.
Each session will center around two assigned papers corresponding to a specific subject area in the strategy literature. Students are required to read prior to the session.
