The course has four parts: job preparation, communication at work, persuasive speech training, and business awareness building. Part one will focus on the necessary skills for job hunting. Students shall complete their own preparation tasks for their career plan through part one. Part two features the training of oral skills and communication strategies in business contexts, i.e., negotiating, dealing with customer services, and crisis management. Part three is to hone students’ public speaking skills by reviewing persuasive speeches like TED talks & PechaKucha and so to deliver one persuasive talk each as the final task of the semester. Part four aims to develop and raise students’ business awareness through weekly business news review and their ability to engage in the discussion of current business issues and start a conversation freely and immediately.

Course Objectives:
The course aims to help students to achieve the following goals upon finishing the course. They shall
1. be well-equipped with English language skills in job hunting,
2. be able to deal with and communicate effectively in major business contexts.
3. be confident in preparing and giving a persuasive speech on formal occasions.
4. be confident in participating in the discussion of a business issue & daily activities
