課程簡介Course Description

This course aims to investigate the various analytical frameworks in the field of international security with a review of the dominant paradigms that affect the contemporary global order. The purpose of this course is to review a wide range of the literature concerning the study of conflict and security in international relations, and particularly the theoretical material concerning war and international violence. While introducing students to theoretical and empirical material on international conflict, nuclear security, and current warfare thus having a bibliographic function, the course will also provide an opportunity to design and do research in this area. Students with strong interests with international security can also take special topics in international security to study relevant issues in global security.

    課程目標與學習成效Course Objectives & Learning Outcomes

After studying this course, students will learn the basic arguments and knowledge about the studies of international security. Students are expected to develop a sufficient understanding of this subfield to prepare for further study and specialization, and are able to identify the broad theoretical approaches to the study of different security and conflict concepts. The first part of the course, international conflict serves as a general multi-disciplinary introduction to social conflict including such basic conflict processes as escalation. The next section will be organized around the nuclear issues in the world and how the United Nations mediates the current nuclear conflict. The last section will discuss the current warfare in the 21st century and study the causes of civil conflicts, domestic violence, and cyber security.
