This course is designed to ensure that students have a complete and in-depth understanding of US patent law. Please note that the loading of this class will be terribly heavy, including a lot of reading assignments, case briefings, occasional quizzes, Socratic teaching in class, and a final exam. Nevertheless, students will learn a lot from this course. Students willing to hardly study US patent law are more than welcome to take this course.

Quiz:
Students must read the textbooks and related cases and listen to the supplementary materials in detail before class to facilitate in-depth discussions in class. Teachers will randomly conduct quizzes in class to test students’ understanding of the reading assignments.
Case Study and Homework:
1. Please brief each case and hand over the hard copy of the brief(s) at class on the corresponding class date (generally an A4 size page for each case).
2. The brief should include:
(1) fact, including the plaintiff(s), the defendant(s), the background of the case, the judicial judgment(s) in the first (and second) instances;
(2) ruling, including the statutory rules and the judicial rules;
(3) holding;
(4) reasoning.
