This course is designed to accommodate four types of overseas experiences for GCIT students: 1) those who obtain their own internships with an overseas company, 2) those who will study abroad on a short-term exchange or course (4 week duration minimum, can be combined with other activities in the target country), 2) those who will work or volunteer abroad with an NGO or NPO, and 4) students who will engage in overseas fieldwork related to their research or academic interests. In all cases, students will have to report to the supervisor of this course regularly, although there will be no set class time. Evaluation will consist of pass or fail based on the successful completion of one of the three ‘projects’ in the course (referring to the internship, exchange, or fieldwork). The goal of the course is for students to gain first-hand experience with media overseas.
IMPORTANT NOTE: GCIT students who are going on a semester+ exchange through the OIC are exempt from having to complete this credit for their graduation.

For all options, the duration of time spent overseas must be a mininum of 4 weeks. For an overseas internship, the supervisor must complete an evaluation form to be sent back to Dr. Cook in order to complete the course. For fieldwork, the student must present a proposal to the supervising party (Dr. Cook) explaining why they are undertaking the fieldwork. All students must complete a report about their work to be presented at the end of the semester (in writing).
This course will be evaluated on a PASS/FAIL basis. If the student fails to complete one of the four tasks before the end of the Spring semester, then they will receive an “incomplete” for the course. To receive a pass, students must complete an in-depth report on either their internship, exchange, fieldwork, or trip.
