課程簡介Course Description

This undergraduate course on Kyrgyz society and culture aims to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the rich and diverse cultural heritage of the Kyrgyz people. Through a multidisciplinary approach, students will explore topics such as language, oral traditions, music, arts, cuisine, religion, social customs, and contemporary issues, among others. They will examine the historical, geographic, and sociopolitical contexts that have shaped Kyrgyz culture and identity, as well as the interplay between traditional and modern elements. Additionally, students will gain insights into current debates within Kyrgyzstan and efforts to preserve traditional culture. The course aims to equip students with a nuanced appreciation for the complexity of Kyrgyz society past and present. By the end of the semester, they will have acquired specialized knowledge of the Kyrgyz people and their ways of life.

    Course Objectives:

    • To provide students with an in-depth understanding of Kyrgyz cultural heritage

    • To explore the interplay between traditional and modern elements in contemporary Kyrgyz culture
    • To analyze current issues and debates within Kyrgyzstan
    • To equip students with specialized knowledge of Kyrgyz society and culture, past and present

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Students will be able to critically analyze and interpret cultural texts and artifacts from Kyrgyzstan
    • Students will gain a thorough understanding of the contexts that have shaped Kyrgyz culture and identity
    • Students will be able to identify key features of traditional Kyrgyz culture and explain their significance
    • Students will develop an understanding of contemporary issues and debates within Kyrgyzstan
    • Students will be able to articulate a nuanced appreciation for the complexity of Kyrgyz society and culture.
