This course provides an introduction to Polish language and culture while ensuring a solid command of the fundamental grammatical structures and Polish pronunciation. Students will learn four key linguistic competences: listening, reading, speaking and writing based on various types of texts including authentic materials. The contents of the course include subjects related to everyday life: personal data, general look, family, leisure activities, everyday life situations etc. The aim of the course is to enable students to function in simple everyday situations.

By the end of the course students will be able to:
- understand and use familiar everyday expressions and basic phrases aimed at the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type
- introduce themselves and others
- ask and answer questions about personal details such as where someone lives, people they know and things they have
- interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly
- use formal and informal language in different situations.

Fluency:
20 points: Speech natural and continuous; no unnatural pauses
18 points: Speech generally natural and continuous; only slight stumbling or unnatural pauses
16 points: Definite stumbling, but a student manages to rephrase or continue
12 points: Speech frequently hesitant and jerky; sentences may be left uncompleted
Vocabularies:
20 points: Uses vocabulary very accurately and extensively (for given levels)
18 points: Uses range of vocabulary accurately
16 points: Occasionally lacks needed words; predominantly accurate usage
12 points: Frequently lacks needed words; frequent inaccurate usage
Structure:
20 points: Vocal expression almost always correct
18 points: Most vocal expressions correct; some minor structural errors
16 points : Many vocal expressions correct; some significant structural errors
12 points: Some vocal expressions correct; definite structural problems
Comprehensibility:
40 points: Entirely comprehensible
36 points: Almost entirely comprehensible; no misunderstandings
32 points: Some errors, but mostly comprehensible; occasionally misunderstands tester's questions
24 points: Many errors, about half incomprehensible
Regular class attendance is a student obligation. Students are responsible for all of their work, including tests, and written work. If a student misses three or more consecutive class meetings is required to take an additional test from the missed classes.
