This course emphasizes the functional usage of Arabic in developing listening skills for elementary-level students. To build relevant vocabulary, students will engage with narrative videos and illustrative sentences from the Al-Kitaab textbook with supplementary materials provided by the instructor. This course will also enhance students’ knowledge of everyday vocabulary and expressions, as well as basic sentence structure.

Upon completing this course, students should be able to:
1. Comprehend short audio/video texts on familiar topics, such as basic information about their immediate environment, education, family, and daily routines, including details such as telling time, describing places, and narrating simple events
2. Understand the basic cultural aspects of social interactions
3. Have an active vocabulary of approximately 400 words

Attendance and Participation (10%):
Students are expected to attend class sessions regularly and on time. Students will be allowed only two absences throughout the semester.
Homework Assignments (15%):
Late assignments will receive partial credit (70%) and only be accepted up to one week from the deadline. Please let your instructor know if you have special circumstances that interfere with your ability to complete assignments in a timely manner.
Recording Assignments (10%):
Late assignments will receive partial credit (70%) and only be accepted up to one week from the deadline. Please let your instructor know if you have special circumstances that interfere with your ability to complete assignments in a timely manner. The filename should include the student’s name and the current week number, for example, “朴寶劍 Week 1.”
Quizzes (15%):
There will be a total of 4 quizzes throughout the semester. If a student must miss a quiz, they should contact the instructor in advance.
Midterm (25%):
The midterm examination will be given in class on Thursday, April 18th.
Final Examination (25%):
The final exam will be scheduled during week 17. Details of the exam will be discussed in class.
