The goal of this course is to offer a better understanding of language sound patterns. In this class, we will cover specific topics on how sounds are produced, how the sounds of a language are discovered, what structures a sound has, how sounds are represented, how sounds are grouped, how sounds change in connected speech, what syllable, stress, tone and intonation are, and how phonology and morphology interact. The students are encouraged to form study groups and share ideas with one another. Exercises will be given occasionally. There will be a mid-term examination and a final examination.
