Brief Introduction
Welcome to the world of debating!
This course will introduce you to the activity of debating. We will make the assumption that you have no prior experience with debate, but you will need to have STRONG English communication ability.
This course will focus on the parliamentary style of debating. You will be briefly introduced to some aspects of policy debate, when it is useful for supporting your knowledge of debating, but all our debates will be run in the Asian Parliamentary style (3 member teams, 7 minute constructive speeches, and one 4 minute reply speech).
We will have debate practice drills every week to improve your fluency at the beginning of the semester and full debates every week by the end of the semester.
Instead of a final exam, it is most likely that you will participate in a novice debate tournament. Other schools will participate and compete in that tournament.
