文化研究對我們生活的世界感興趣，包括人們的所言所行，包含各種表意的實踐、內化後渾然不覺的身體慣習、以及能體察但不言明的隱然默契。簡要地說，文化研究對文本和生活經驗感興趣，文本包含視覺聽覺與多媒材的符號表現，生活經驗包括人們意識到與忽略的實踐。以文化研究的實體論與認識論為本，探索隱含在文本與生活經驗中的多元知識。由於文本分析在傳播研究領域較被熟知，本課程特別重視運用身體感的觀察法，並鼓勵學生運用感官體察生活中的時間與空間經驗，藉著探索日常生活的多重意涵，進一步解構文化的意義。

• 學期成績的比重組成如下：期末報告30%，民族誌記錄30%，導讀25%，討論15%。
• 老師對碩士生與博士生要求不同：
- 碩士生請完成指定閱讀，導讀時請呈現對文本的詮釋，期末報告可兩人一組合作完成。
- 博士生除了指定閱讀，導讀時還須自行找到至少一篇與主題相關文章於課堂簡報，且在討論與報告中展現對於理論抽象層次的理解與批判能力；期末報告需獨自完成。
