本課程旨在引導學生了解質性研究為何、其使用目的、以及進行方式,課程內容與討論設計特別著重在資訊管理領域。質性研究方法著重在理解真實環境裡人、事、物的運作脈絡,並透過科學方法的解讀和詮釋而獲得新知識,是探索複雜商業、組織、資訊技術、人類行為和社會現象的重要管道,質性研究方法的形成(例如個案研究、民族誌、紮根理論等),使學生深入了解特定行動和決策發生的過程中,有系統化的途徑得以依循。
This course is designed to help research students gain a deep understanding about qualitative research in terms of what it is, why and how it can be conducted. This methodology facilitates researchers in acquiring new knowledge about how things work in real-life contexts. It gives researchers an opportunity to explore the complexity of business-related, organizational, technological, and/or social phenomena in their contexts. Qualitative research methods (such as case study, ethnography, grounded theory, etc.) have been developed to guide researchers towards understanding the contexts within which actions and decisions take place. The research topics, literature, activities and research examples in this course are focused on the field of Management Information Systems.

This course is aimed at providing students with a robust understanding of qualitative research from its philosophical underpinnings through to its practice. The objectives of this course are:
1. To acquire an understanding of qualitative research;
2. To know how to construct the theoretical argument and research question(s);
3. Understanding qualitative research streams and methods;
4. Effectively carrying out data collection and analysis;
5. Applying the deductive, inductive and dialectic thinking logic to thesis writing.
