In today’s fast-paced and ever-evolving work environment, achieving a balance between work/career and nonwork/private aspirations is essential for personal well-being and success. This course introduces fundamental theories and concepts related to work-life balance and provides opportunities to consider this issue from the individual and the organizational perspectives. On the one hand, students will reflect on their own views, experiences, and preferences about work-life balance and develop plans for effective management of multiple roles throughout the lifespan. On the other hand, students will analyze cases to better understand challenges encountered in the business world to support employees’ work-life balance. Throughout the semester, students will be invited to consider various economic, social, organizational, and cultural factors that influence individuals’ work-life balance.

1) Individual assignment (30%): There will be several individual assignments.
2) Team assignment (40%): As a team, you will analyze the assigned cases.
3) In-class participation (30%): During classes, you will engage in various team activities. The written output of the activities will be graded for completeness and demonstrated knowledge of course material. For some team activities, you may need to complete the pre-class preparation portion individually before class, and the individual preparedness will also be considered for grading. Any team member absent for the activity will receive a score of zero for the activity.
There is no textbook for this class. Readings will be posted on Moodle.
Students will be also required to purchase and download additional readings for case discussion.
