比較研究在晚進社會階層化研究領域當中，扮演著重要的角色。透過比較研究，一方面可以增進對現象瞭解深度，同時可以驗證建立於單一地區的理論是否具有普遍性。隨著跨國合作的大型調查或長期性追蹤資料的收集與公開，使得實證取向的比較研究獲得重要的發展基礎。本課程的設計主要希望讓學生對東亞社會與工作比較研究領域有一個概括性的了解，同時，希望學生體驗到如何利用理論與實證的研究取向來分析探討跨國職業階層化的現象。

本課程的目標是學生在修習完成後對東亞社會與工作比較研究領域擁有概括性的了解，同時能夠結合理論與實證資料來探討跨國職業階層化之相關問題。
