本課程介紹語音學(言語的科學研究)以及音韻學(人類語言中的聲音模式研究)的基礎概念,並特別著重於華語語音及音韻系統,尤其對與二語習得相關的華語語音內容作描述與分析。本課程旨在幫助學生培養對言語行為調查的分析技能,學生將學習運用國際音標符號來分析語音現象。本課程也將介紹若干分析語音的聲學技術,協助學生進行針對某個特定語言現象的語音實驗。課程中將透過語言問題解決和語料分析來討論語音學和音韻學中的重要議題。本課程預期學生能夠掌握世界各語言的聲音系統之間相似性與相異性的知識,從而培養出針對不同母語背景的學習者進行華語語音教學的能力。
This course introduces students to basic concepts in phonetics, the scientific study of speech, and in phonology, the study of sound patterns in various human languages with a particular focus on the Chinese phonetic/phonological system, especially on the description and analysis regarding second language acquisition. It aims to help students develop basic skills for linguistic investigation of speech behaviors. The students will work on the ability to analyze speech by means of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). Also, the course will introduce students to a range of acoustic techniques for analyzing speech, and help them through a short experimental project of some linguistic phenomenon. It will discuss some of the essential topics in phonological theory through problem-solving and data analysis. The students are expected to gain specific knowledge of some of the similarities and differences that exist in the sound systems of the world’s languages, and further develop their abilities of teaching Chinese phonetics to learners with different language backgrounds.

課程的主要目標是希望幫助學生豐富華語語音學相關的知識與增進研究能力。就學習成效而言,一方面為從事華語文研究奠定基礎,另一方面讓華語文教學效能有所提升。
The main course objective is to help students enrich their knowledge of Chinese phonetics and improve their abilities to conduct independent research. It can provide the foundations for further research on Chinese languages and also enhance the efficiency in teaching Chinese as a second/foreign language.
