The goal of this course is to offer an overview of generative phonology. We will follow the new policy of the university and adopt 16+2 design, namely, with 16 weeks of in-class sections and 2 weeks of fieldwork. We will discuss topics such as linear phonology, syllable structure, autosegmental phonology, lexical phonology, and prosodic morphology. Exercises and quizzes will be given occasionally. The students are encouraged to form study groups and share ideas with one another. The students will be paired up to work on term projects. A final oral presentation and a written report of the project are required.
