The present course aims to develop students' ability to communicate in Spanish productively, effectively and spontaneously in all situations in the professional and academic environment, as well as in situations that involve negotiation. The course will prepare students to function and act confidently when cooperating and working on projects with other people in all these fields. It will also teach students to adapt their register to different contexts and situations.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:
- describe one's point of view while trying to convince other people
- propose and suggest ideas to solve a problem
- express opinions by making solid arguments
- express empathy or indifference when learning about other people's problems
- let the interlocutor decide when cooperating to achieve something
- set conditions for doing something
- express unreal or improbable conditions and their consequences
- react and express feelings about social problems

The oral tests are individual. Their main objective is to assess the student’s communicative ability. The teacher will ask the students 5 to 10 questions and assign a grade to each answer according to the following criteria.

9 – 10 |
Clear pronunciation. The student speaks almost without pauses. |
The student uses an adequate vocabulary. |
The student’s syntax is correct. He may make some mistakes sporadically. |
The student understands the interlocutor or asks for an explanation when not sure. |

6 – 8 |
Mostly clear pronunciation, but the interlocutor needs to make some effort to understand. The student speaks with several pauses. |
The student uses an adequate vocabulary but sometimes chooses the wrong word. |
The student’s syntax is mostly correct. He doesn’t control very well the verb conjugation and the gender and number correspondence between nouns and other words. |
The student mostly understands the interlocutor, but there might be some confusion. |

4 – 5 |
Mostly unclear pronunciation, the interlocutor doesn’t understand most of the student’s speech. The student speaks with long pauses. |
The student only uses the correct word sporadically. |
The student’s syntax is not correct. Therefore, the interlocutor doesn’t understand very well what the student says. |
The student has trouble understanding the interlocutor. |
