This course provides to students basic knowledge of U.S patent litigation in a procedural aspect. The topics cover “cease and desist letters,” declaratory judgment jurisdiction, Rule 12(b)(2) motion, Rule 12(b)(6) motion, venue, discovery, “attorney-client privilege and work product immunity,” Rule 11 sanction, expert witness, and joinder under 35 U.S.C. § 299.

This course aims at exposing students to various procedural issues in U.S. patent litigation. Students also learn how to research U.S. law.
After this course, students will gain an ability to strategically manage U.S. patent litigation as an in-house legal staff.
