課程簡介Course Description

One of the great Japanese management masters, Kenichi Omae, doubted that “Why should teachers know more than students?” This reminds us that opinions of students might contribute to our knowledge accumulation. Thus, in this course, I will pay high attention on student participation and their constructive opinions.

 

Moreover, some students regard management as academic research, while others regard it as a tool which only managers will use. Neither of them is correct. Actually, management happens frequently in our daily life. One of examples is “time management”. Efficient time management can improve our productivity, which in turn to improve our personal competence. Therefore, another purpose of this course is to encourage students to understand management by applying daily life cases and business cases during the lecture, which might increase their interests on management.

    This course also helps to improve on students’ capability of reasoning, criticizing, and creating through group discussion and case study. I deeply believe, as long as students participate in our courses actively as well as sharing their knowledge freely, all of us will benefit from the course and enjoy the “Management”.

    Description

    1. Participation

    40%

    • Participation, discussion, speech, answering, interactions with lecturers.
    • Absence more than TWO TIMES, considering dropping the course.

    2. Individual Assignment

    20%

    • Writing an individual report regarding this course and book review (個案教學的奧秘).
    • Word limit: Maximum 3 pages.

    3. Group Assignments

    20%

    • Each group has to submit the question answer for all cases.
    • Word limit: Maximum 2 pages.

    4, Group Report

    20%

    • Writing a case with managerial problems.
    • Case and solutions.
    • Word limit: Each for maximum 5 pages.

     

    Course Format (Learning Contract)

    1. Fill personal data in the student card and hand in a 2-inch photo.
    2. Each class is divided into two sessions. There is a 20-minute break between two sessions.
    3. Students are expected to read and prepare all the cases by individual and by group before the class.
    4. Participation in class discussion is highly encouraged. The instructor will make cold calls to ensure students’ efforts on the course.
    5. Please do not miss classes and no entry if late for more than 5 minutes.
    6. Consider DROPPING THE COURSE if you miss the class for MORE THAN TWO TIMES.
    7. Switch off cellular phones.
    8. No food in the classroom (drinks and water are permitted).
    9. The use of laptop is strongly discouraged during the class unless the instructor asks for.
    10. Please upload all assignments or reports in the NCCU E-learning website. Late submission of assignments will NOT BE ACCEPTED.
    11. References are required in all assignments. No packing for assignments is needed.
    12. Groups will be organized under the instructor’s rule. Each group composes 4-5 persons.
