This course is designed to introduce the field of child language acquisition from an interdisciplinary perspective. The main themes to be discussed include 1) In conversation with children, 2) Starting on language: Perception, 3) Early words, 4) Sounds in words: Production, 5) Words and meanings, 6) First combinations, first constructions, 7) Adding complexity within clauses, 8) Combining clauses: More complex constructions, 9) Honing conversational skills, 10) Doing things with language, and 11) Acquisition and change.
