解說人類如何獲得知識、儲存知識以及運用知識的歷程，包括如何知覺週邊的事物（知覺歷程）；如何解釋其中某一部份的訊息做進一步的處理（注意力）；人們如何記住這些訊息，又如何在需要運用這些訊息時有效地將他們提取出來（記憶）；這些知識訊息是以何種方式呈現在腦海中（知識呈現法）；人們如何由例證中學習概念（概念學習）；如何由前提推導出結論（邏輯推理）；如何判斷事物發生的可能性、如何在不確定的狀況下做選擇（決策歷程）；如何解決問題以達到目標（問題解決歷程）。
能力項目說明
課程目標：介紹認知心理學的基本概念、研究議題、研究分析方法以及未來的趨勢與走向。完成此課程後，應對認知心理學相關議題、研究方法有基本的了解，並能由認知心理學的思考角度切入並分析問題，進而設計實驗檢驗之。
學習成效：學生閱讀英文課本，藉由對於各個認知歷程的了解，選擇有興趣的議題進行進一步的探討，整理閱讀相關文獻並提出研究假設與研究計畫之書面報告。藉由期中與期末考試了解學生知識之理解與獲得，由期末研究計劃了解學生「以認知心理學的思考角度切入並分析問題，進而設計實驗檢驗之」的能力。在此過程中，希望達到以下學習成效：1.了解認知心理學各歷程的基礎知識，2. 具備良好的推理與判斷能力，3. 具備良好的分析與整合能力，4. 具備搜尋相關文獻或資料的能力，5.英文能力之提升。
