In this course, students are required to engage in specifically designed activities/ programs that aim to improve and implement critical-thinking skills, especially cross-cultural related issues.
Listening: to understand English in social broadcast and academic situations relevant to the teaching materials. Strategies such as listening for examples and time periods previewing taking notes getting main idea etc. will be taught.
Speaking: to carry on conversations narrate events participate in pair or group discussions and deliver presentations. Skills such as asking for and giving clarification understanding interjections asking for information over the phone expressing an opinion will be introduced and practiced.
Reading: to learn basic reading strategies including vocabulary building scanning skimming guessing meaning from context identifying main ideas and supporting details.
Writing: to acquire basic but key principles of writing, and will stress the three stages of the writing process (prewriting, writing, and rewriting). Grammar exercises will supplement writing tasks.

College English I & II is a two-semester course designed to help students to become proficient in English used in both social and academic environments. In this learner-centered class students are expected to improve their receptive skills as well as productive skills in a cooperative learning atmosphere.
