This course is for students with upper-intermediate English proficiency. This course aims at more inquisitive, mature and interested students of English language learners than those found in the lower levels. At this level, the instructor uses at least from 70% to 80% of English as the language of instruction. It aims to further improve their reading comprehension skills by strengthening them with an emphasis on relatively more difficult reading strategies such as, understanding context clues, formal topic and sentence outlines and telling facts from opinions. The readings are more complex than those found in the low-intermediate level textbooks but not as academically oriented as those found in the high-intermediate level. In this intermediate course, strengthening the students’ English grammar, especially the use of complex sentences and clauses, broadening their knowledge of technical and “international” English vocabulary words and enhancing their fluency through sufficient practice in and out of class are especially emphasized. Upon completion of the course, the students are expected to acquire 3000-47000 English words and be ready for more advanced study of English. In this course, the instructor will also apply flipped learning strategy into the curriculum. In this teaching method, students will experience the online learning as well as foster their self-study ability. |
