This course gives the students the opportunity for the real-life integration of language skills and allows for the instructor to take a whole language approach with flexibility in creating interesting and motivating lessons.
Students are required to accomplish various tasks on selected topics in the textbook. Other supplementary materials are offered to reinforce students’ previous learning experiences and introduce the language that they will encounter later.
College English I is a 4-skill integrated course designed to help students build up basic language learning skills and develop critical thinking skills. Upon completion of this course the students are expected to be able to:
1. acquire basic academic skills, such as summarizing and identifying gist.
2. introduce themselves.
3. ask and answer questions related to the readings and express their own opinions.
4. write topic sentences supported by facts and examples.
5. share information about different cultures and deliver an informal talk.

Requirements:
1. Class attendance is required for instructor to evaluate students’ in-class oral performance.
2. Do assigned readings or writings (if there’s any) before class.
3. Overdue assignments will not be accepted.

6. Students should keep a file or notebook of all returned assignments so that they can document their progress.
